Portfolio Involvement
Sam brings to RLH his past experience in both financial consulting and middle-market investment banking, together with a strong team orientation. His capabilities are a valuable addition to RLH, as Sam works on financial modeling of prospective and current portfolio companies as well as transactional diligence. He holds a degree in Economics / Mathematics, with a minor in Business Finance, from the University of Southern California.
Nugget of business philosophy:
“Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team of people.” – Steve Jobs
Initial exposure to private equity:
During the summer after his first year in college, Sam completed a two-week internship at a private equity firm in Houston. Besides learning about life in a hot and humid city, this experience first introduced Sam to the industry and drove his career aspirations.
Book Recommendation:
Alone on the Wall, which follows Alex Honnold’s experience free soloing – climbing without a rope. A riveting story of Alex constantly achieving what others view as impossible via an amazing level of focus in circumstances where one small slip equals death. Other suggested reads include Freaknomics and Into the Wild (Jon Krakauer). Sam’s choices for movies include The Departed (a crime thriller), Interstellar (sci-fi), and The Dark Knight.
Out and About:
When Sam’s not in the office, he’s probably in the great outdoors – fly fishing, skiing, playing tennis, surfing, biking, hiking or hanging out at the beach. More than enough choices to fill those non-work waking hours.
Fight On:
A big fan of all Trojan sports, but in a close second place are the pro teams (Twins, Vikings, and T-wolves) from Minnesota where he grew up.
